Sanjay Theodore was born in India in 1967. The Theodore family left India as a result of the war with Pakistan in 1974. The family moved to London and finally to New Zealand in 1976. Sanjay studied Fine Arts at Ilam School of Fine Arts (Canterbury University) as well as West Texas State University and the prestigious New York Studio School.

Sanjay exhibits in New Zealand and the U.K. His work is included in several collections including the Tate Britain Library and the National Art Library (Victoria & Albert Museum). His paintings have been reviewed in magazines such as Flashart. He lives on the Kapiti Coast.



ABOUT THE BOOK



My approach to the making of the book-works is to allow an entire exhibition to be encapsulated in each book. Each page of the book should be seen as a part of a larger work.

The imagery should be seen as contemplative objects. I want the images to exist in no referential way to the world outside. Each book then, is a solo exhibition.
