Fleur Yorston

Born in Auckland 1972, New Zealand Fleur Yorston completed a Diploma in Fine Arts at Otago Polytechnic in 1993 before attaining a Master of Fine Arts at RMIT University, Australia in 2001.

Having spent some time living in the UK and greatly inspired by the museums and art galleries of the UK, Europe and New York Fleur Yorston returned to Dunedin, New Zealand and now lives close to the landscape that subtley embues her work.

She has consistently exhibited her paintings in New Zealand and been included in group shows in New Zealand, London and Australia. Fleur Yorston's work references the alchemical and relates to jewellery and body adornment. Each object has the ability not only to transform itself, but also transform the wearer.

A necklace for instance describes a line and remembers a body beneath. While a piece of jewellery is an object, it can also transcend the every day descriptive world and become a symbol of another reality. Body adornment is cross cultural; it can represent spirituality, beliefs and ideologies; it can become the vessel of cultural memory.
